IN LOVING MEMORY OF DAN KUGLER

Dan Kugler was a constant advocate for the Spencer Educational Foundation and had a true passion for connecting with students and sharing his risk management expertise at universities across the country. We are forever grateful for his longstanding commitment to our Foundation. Dan served as a Spencer Board Member from 2006 – 2018, acted as a mentor for Scholarship recipients, volunteered for our Risk Manager on Campus program for nearly 20 years, and most recently served on our Scholarships committee. His generosity, humor, and kind spirit will be greatly missed.

All donations made in memory of Dan will be used to establish a Risk Manager on Campus (RMOC) Grant in his name.

This is a perfect place to make your mark - to provide for students who are engaged. These kids are appreciative, they want to succeed, and they truly appreciate what you can provide to them as professionals - not only, yes, your dollars, but also your experience.

Dan was always a welcome speaker at any program we had here at the University of Central Arkansas. He spoke more than once as our Risk Manager On Campus. In fact, when I came to UCA in the Fall of 2018 and had the opportunity to choose a speaker for our 2019 RMOC program, Dan was the first name I looked for. He brought enthusiasm for the risk manager field and for our students. He was engaging and personable. While he was here in the Spring of 2019 we took Gamma Iota Sigma members out to dinner with Dan. He had great interactions with the students and there were a couple of "guests" who changed their major after that evening. Dan will be greatly missed and it is wonderful to see Spencer honor him in this way!

As a new risk manager, the first class I took from RIMS was taught by Dan Kugler. Our two days were filled with a wealth of knowledge and of course, Dan’s good-natured humor. Later in my career when I was serving on the RIMS Conference Planning Committee, I crossed paths with Dan as a RIMS board member in NYC and our national conferences. He always had such a nice way of engaging with people. His teasing of me let me know that it was his way of treating me like a friend. Dan was a special human being to all who crossed his path. He will be missed by all of us in the risk management community and by all who knew. My sincere condolences to his family.

When I first met Dan upon joining the SEF Board, it was apparent that he loved what he did as a risk management professional and enjoyed spending time with his colleagues in the profession. During discussions with him about content for the classes he taught at the University of Wisconsin and Concordia University, the joy he had by introducing students to risk management and insurance was on full display.  And  this same joy surfaced when he volunteered as a RM On Campus for SEF.  So many people will miss him!

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Dan. My deepest sympathy to Margie and family and to his countless friends. Dan was a great student and educator of Risk Management and graciously shared his knowledge with so many others. Sometimes as an instructor, sometimes in a meeting with other Risk Managers and sometimes over a convivial drink but always with a twinkle in his eye. Eternal peace grant unto him and may light perpetual shine upon him.

Thank you for making this grant possible in Dan’s name. I know he would be so very pleased to know that a risk manager will be teaching on campus from funds donated in his name.

Dan was a joy to be around & very inspirational to those he came in contact with. RIMS & our profession have lost a great leader & example.

May his legacy throughout the risk education program continue on.

In memory of Dan Kugler, a great supporter of RIMS and Spencer.
