Spencer Educational Foundation Surpasses $1 Million Fundraising Goal

Spencer’s 2nd Annual Funding Their Future Campaign Honored Peter Garvey (EPIC Insurance Brokers and Consultants) and Mary Roth (Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc.); Raised Funds for Future RMI Professionals

November 4, 2021 – The Spencer Educational Foundation is excited to announce that their $1 million fundraising goal has been surpassed. Peter Garvey of EPIC Insurance Brokers & Consultants and Mary Roth of the Risk and Insurance Management Society were honored for their tremendous dedication to supporting future risk management and insurance professionals in conjunction with Spencer’s 2nd annual Funding Their Future Campaign. Spencer is deeply grateful to the many industry sponsors who participated in this year’s campaign which took place from June 15 through October 31.

“I am proud to be part of an industry that forms a financial backstop behind those in need and at times of crisis, and I am equally proud to stand side-by-side with industry leaders who recognize that the future sustainability of our industry relies on us proactively helping new minds join our ranks,” said Duncan Ellis, Chair of Spencer’s Funding Their Future Campaign and Head of North American Retail Property at AIG. “I applaud the many companies who are helping to propel Spencer’s efforts to nourish this bevy of developing talent heading to our industry.”

Spencer’s Funding Their Future Campaign highlighted the past, present, and future of the Foundation. All funds raised through the Funding Their Future Campaign will support future risk management and insurance leaders through scholarships, as well as grants that support experiential learning.

This year’s campaign recognized longtime industry supporters and those who helped pave the way for the Foundation’s success, highlighted the growth Spencer has achieved since its founding in 1979, and celebrated the diverse and talented students who have benefited from Spencer’s programming. Over the past 42 years, Spencer has grown its scholarship program from three recipients per year to nearly 100 students per year and has added four other grant programs that allow students to gain hands on experience in the field. Spencer has facilitated the investment of more than $6 million over the past five years alone thanks to broad industry support.

“For the past two years, Spencer has successfully raised awareness of our mission and expanded our fundraising support among corporations and individuals alike,” explained Megan Miller, Spencer Educational Foundation Executive Director. “Our generous partners value the impact Spencer is making and enable us to foster the talented students who are studying to enter the insurance industry and risk management profession.”
