Mother-Daughter Duo Gives Back to the Industry
Risk Management veteran Robin Roeder has joined forces with daughter Judy Chaipan to create the Millie Workman Memorial Scholarship. The $7,500 scholarship aims to support an aspiring risk management and insurance industry leader dedicated to helping others. It is specifically intended for undergraduate students pursuing coursework in Risk Management and Insurance and will be administered by the Spencer Educational Foundation.
Workman’s illustrious risk management career spanned nearly four decades. Among her many accolades, she was named Risk Manager of the Year in 1992 and one of the 100 Leading Women in the Insurance Industry in 2000 by Business Insurance, honors that reflected not only her professional expertise but also the profound impact she had on her peers and the industry at large. She also was inducted into the Tennessee Insurance Hall of Fame in 2002. More importantly, Workman was cherished for the warmth of her friendship and the depth of her compassion. Countless individuals, drawn to her magnetic personality and genuine kindness, regarded her as family, including Roeder and Chaipan.
“I will always remember Millie as one of my first female role models, both in the insurance industry and in life,” said Judy Chaipan, co-founder of the scholarship. “She embodied a combination of unapologetic style and strength, along with selflessness and kindness. My hope is that by establishing this scholarship, we can honor her legacy and continue to foster the development of strong female talent in the industry.”
“We are incredibly thankful to Robin and Judy for their generous support in memory of an industry legend,” said Megan Miller, Executive Director of the Spencer Educational Foundation. “Millie was a strong advocate for educating the next generation of risk managers, and this award will ensure that her spirit of giving back continues for many years to come.”
