Spencer's Funding Their Future Gala Raises Over $1.4M; Scholarships and Grants for 2023 Expected to Reach Highest Levels

Industry Leader Neeti Bhalla Johnson, President of Global Risk Solutions at Liberty Mutual, Honored for Unwavering Support of Rising Risk and Insurance Professionals

New York (October 17, 2022) – More than 500 insurance and risk management executives gathered at the Spencer Educational Foundation’s Funding Their Future Gala on September 22 at the New York Sheraton Times Square Hotel. The group celebrated gala honoree Neeti Bhalla Johnson, President of Global Risk Solutions at Liberty Mutual. The event raised more than $1.4M that will fund scholarships, internships, course development and other educational programming for the next generation of risk management and insurance professionals.

The gala featured Spencer leadership as well as two Spencer Scholarship recipients – Jamal Evans, an undergraduate student at Temple who was awarded the Liberty Mutual Scholarship this year as well as the Allied World scholarship in 2021; and Anne Bowen, an Orr Fellow with partner company Apex Benefits  who is a three-time Spencer scholarship recipient as well as a recipient of funding provided by Spencer to attend various industry conferences.

“After a two-year hiatus, Spencer was thrilled to be able to bring the industry together around a cause that speaks to each of us – preparing the next generation to lead our businesses into the future,” said Megan Miller, Spencer Executive Director.  “We cannot thank our sponsors and donors enough, in particular Liberty Mutual, for their tremendous support.”

At the close of her remarks, Liberty’s Bhalla Johnson announced a $1M pledge to support Spencer, over and above the $1.4M that was raised through event sponsorships and donations.  This generous gift from Liberty Mutual will enable Spencer to broaden its student reach and attract a diversity of talent to the industry.  Spencer is poised to administer $650,000 in scholarships and another $850,000 in grants to attract and support rising risk professionals in 2023 – a high water mark for the foundation in a time of increasing economic uncertainty.
